Hiking Mobility in Hungary

Sport Mobility 06.07 - 11.07.2026
Hiking Mobility in Hungary

This activity is designed to combine physical activity, outdoor exploration, and intercultural exchange through a unique hiking experience in the heart of Hungary’s natural landscapes. Set in the beautiful surroundings of Bükki National Park, the mobility offers participants the opportunity to disconnect from daily routines and reconnect with nature, movement, and themselves.

Pathways to Outdoors is an Erasmus+ sport project bringing together four organisations from Portugal, Slovakia, Czechia, and Hungary with a shared goal: to raise their capacity to organise wider-ranging hiking activities - including abroad - with high safety standards, and to use hiking as a tool to get more people moving regularly.

Participant profile

  • Resident of one of the following countries: Portugal, Slovakia, Czechia, or Hungary.
  • Active in organising or facilitating outdoor, sport, or community activities.
  • Motivated to develop competencies in hiking organisation and safety, and to apply them in their local context after the activity.
  • Fully available to participate throughout the entire programme (6-11 July 2026, including travel days).
  • Basic physical fitness is required.
  • Not currently receiving other European Union funds (e.g., not enrolled in an Erasmus+ university exchange).

Location

The mobility will take place in the beautiful surroundings of Bükki National Park, one of Hungary’s most diverse natural areas, known for its forests, mountain landscapes, caves, and scenic viewpoints. The region offers an ideal setting for hiking, outdoor activities, and reconnecting with nature away from everyday routines.

Participants will stay at Turistapart Szentlélek, a nature-oriented campsite and accommodation located in the heart of the Bükk Mountains. Surrounded by forests and hiking paths, the accommodation provides a peaceful atmosphere and a comfortable base for the entire mobility, allowing participants to fully enjoy the natural environment and group experience.

Throughout the program, participants will be exploring different hiking trails starting from the accommodation each day across the national park. Every route offers new landscapes and challenges, giving participants the opportunity to discover the diversity of the region, enjoy outdoor adventure, and share meaningful experiences together in nature.

Travel

6 July and 11 July are designated travel days. The meeting point for all participants will be in Budapest, where the group will gather before travelling together to the accommodation in the Bükk region.

Participants from Hungary, Slovakia, and Czechia will travel to Budapest by train, following the principles of green travel and promoting more environmentally friendly mobility options. Participants from Portugal will travel by plane to Budapest due to the longer travel distance.

After arriving in Budapest, all participants will continue the journey together to Turistapark Szentlélek using shared green transportation, creating a more sustainable and collective travel experience from the beginning of the mobility.
