The town of Rokytnice nad Jizerou, nestled in the Czech mountains, recently hosted a full-day photography workshop that blended technical learning with creative exploration. Surrounded by early spring landscapes, the event attracted photography enthusiasts eager to sharpen their skills and see the world through a new lens.

The day began with engaging sessions focused on the fundamental elements of photography. Participants learned how ISO, shutter speed, and aperture work together to control light and exposure. Thanks to clear explanations and live demonstrations, both DSLR users and smartphone photographers were able to grasp the concepts and apply them confidently.

After covering the technical side, the workshop shifted toward the art of composition. Attendees explored practical techniques such as framing, leading lines, and the use of light and perspective to create more compelling images. This hands-on approach encouraged participants to think creatively and experiment beyond the basics.

In the afternoon, the group received a challenge: to head outdoors and explore the town and its natural surroundings, applying everything they had learned. The activity continued into the late afternoon and evening, allowing everyone to take advantage of the golden hour and the subtle, shifting light of sunset. The calm atmosphere and beautiful scenery provided endless photographic opportunities.

As night settled in, participants returned to share their favorite shots during an informal evening session. This final moment created a warm space for reflection, feedback, and inspiration. Some captured quiet forest trails bathed in golden light, while others focused on everyday details, textures, or silhouettes outlined against the sky.

In the end, the workshop proved to be more than just a learning experience. It was a chance to slow down, observe, and connect—through photography, through nature, and through each other. Everyone left with new skills, fresh perspectives, and a renewed sense of creative energy.

The photos taken by the participants during the workshop show us a bit of their vision of nature and a return to a more sustainable lifestyle.

This workshop, held in Czechia as part of the Citizenship in Action project, inspired participants to photograph their friends and local residents in their hometowns, capturing everyday life and community through their lenses.

In December, Anna took to the streets of Jindřichův Hradec to engage with local youth. She asked them about their daily activities, whether they see themselves as active citizens, and how they feel about studying in their city, sparking meaningful conversations about community and involvement.

Nikola and Oleksandra took to the main street of Prague to ask locals what they love most about the Czech Republic—their favorite places, traditional foods, and the small everyday things that make life special. The goal was to highlight the beauty of Czech people and their daily lives. Through warm conversations and thoughtful questions, she captured powerful moments in both photos and stories, giving a glimpse into the heart of the community.
