As part of the Citizenship in Action project, an inspiring Active Citizenship Campaign took place in Eger, focusing on empowering local youth through creativity and participation. The event combined a practical training on photography skills with thought-provoking discussions about citizenship, community engagement, and local realities. The goal was simple but powerful: to raise the sense of initiative among young people and show them that active citizenship can take many forms — even through the lens of a camera.

Participants learned about alternative ways of expressing their views and taking part in their communities — beyond traditional methods like voting or volunteering. One of the most exciting methods introduced during the project was PhotoVoice — a creative approach that uses photography as a tool for social change. PhotoVoice encourages people to capture images that represent their thoughts, challenges, and visions about their community or social issues.

During the Active Citizenship Campaign in Eger, participants were inspired by PhotoVoice examples from all over the world — from photos highlighting environmental problems to images showing cultural identity or social inclusion.

After learning the basics of photography and discussing the concept of citizenship, young people in Eger formed small teams and set off to capture their own images representing local realities. Their task was to reflect on their community, express a message, or highlight a challenge or positive initiative happening in Eger.

The results were creative, emotional, and often very personal. Each photo told a story — about belonging, about challenges faced by youth, or about hopes for the future.
